ONE OF ONLY FOUR RECORDED BLOCKS OF THE 10-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE. A REMARKABLE RARITY. Our records (confirmed with Michael Laurence) contain four 10c Re-Issue blocks, as follows: 1) Extremely Fine centering, small margin tear, ex Worthington, Caspary, Lilly, 1969 Rarities sale (Sale 350, lot 98), Bechtel, Zoellner, currently in Gross collection; 2) Fine centering, 1972 Rarities sale (Sale 409, lot 84); 3) Extremely Fine centering, ex Lozier, Sinkler, 1974 Rarities sale (Sale 448, lot 84), 1981 Rarities sale (Sale 579, lot 184), ex Whitman (Sale 968, lot 165); and 4) Extremely Fine centering, the block offered here, 1980 Rarities sale (Sale 560, lot 150) and 1981 Rarities sale (Sale 579, lot 185), ex “Lafayette”.
