2c Alaska-Yukon, “Ultramar” (Overseas) Specimen Ovpt. (Scott 370S). Purple handstamp applied by Portuguese Postal Authorities upon receipt from U.P.U. headquarters in Berne, Switzerland for distribution to their Colonial Post Offices, no gum, shallow thin spot, Very Fine appearance, this and the previous lot are the only two surviving 2c Alaska-Yukon specimen stamps outside official archives, with 1990 P.F. certificate which has a pencil note suggesting this came from the Postal Archives of Mozambique

Jun. 1 5:3-PM 1909” First Day Exposition machine cancel on exposition picture post card depicting the Agricultural building from the entrance of the Manufacturer’s building, contents describe opening day, “Opening day of the A.Y.P.E. grounds opened 8:30 military parade 9:30-Official opening by Pres. Wm. Taft. pressed a gold key at Wash. D.C.” VERY FINE. A RARE FIRST DAY COVER FOR THE ALASKA-YUKON EXPOSITION, ON A POST CARD FROM THE EXPOSITION, WITH THE EXPOSITION CANCEL AND WITH CONTENTS DESCRIBING OPENING DAY. This is one of the most desirable Alaska-Yukon First Day covers by virtue of the picture post card, clear exposition cancel and contents.

2c Alaska-Yukon (Scott 370). Tied by pre-First Day “Boston Mass. May 29 4-PM 1909” machine cancel on cover to Mr. Chas. Powers in Dorchester Centre, Mass., neatly opened at top, the stamp has exceptionally choice centering EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE PRE-FIRST DAY USAGE OF THE 2-CENT ALASKA-YUKON ISSUE. The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition opened on June 1, 1909, which was a Tuesday and the first official day of use for this stamp. This cover was postmarked on the preceding Friday, four days before it was supposed to be used. Only four pre-first day covers are known. Ex Martin.
