o 1875 Re-issue of 1861-67 issue, 30¢ brownish orange (110), very well centered, especially for the 30¢, excellent color, bold strike duplex cancel. Very Fine. Scott price $25,000 A CHOICE USED EXAMPLE, ONE OF THE TWO FINEST CERTIFIED BY THE PHILATELIC FOUNDATION. Expertization: 1984 P.F. Certificate. Provenance: Twigg-Smith. The 30¢ re-issue, as with most of the others from this re-issue group is exceedingly rare used. The 30¢ is also especially difficult to locate well centered, given the narrow spacing at the sides. A review of the Philatelic Foundation records yields only about 20 used examples, of which only 6 are sound. The present example, and one other, a virtual twin, are the only ones which we can call well centered. Matthew Bennett International, Feb 2015, Sale 351, Lot 92 |
