2c Pink, Block of Four, Imperforate Horizontally (248a). Original gum, some perf flaws, mostly separated along vertical perfs FINE. A VERY IMPORTANT 1894 BUREAU ISSUE RARITY. THIS BLOCK IS REPORTEDLY UNIQUE. Reports on Scott 248a indicate there are only four pairs and one block of four in any condition. Aside from a pair offered in our recent Sale 976, we do not recall seeing any others on the auction market. There was a 44-year lapse between our offering a pair in the 1965 Rarities sale and the examples offered in 2009. Ex Worthington. Noted in Brookman book (Vol. 3, p. 100).
