1908, 2¢ carmine (Scott 332a), 6 booklet panes of 6, includes five position D, plate nos. 4805, 4970, 5099, 5108 and 5266, each with at least one stamp small fault, plus one position G, o.g., never hinged but glazed spot on selvedge tab, Fine to Very Fine. Scott $1,010. Estimate $200 – 300.

o 1908, 2¢ carmine Foreign entry of 1¢ design (332 var.), average centering as are most of the dozen or so recorded used examples, intense shade. Small thin and light creases, not mentioned on accompanying certificate. Fine appearance. Scott $2,750 in the grade of Fine Expertization: 1983 P.F. Certificate. The reason for the scarcity of this variety is the fact that only one of the 8,000+ positions on the 200+ plates used to print these 2 cent stamps featured the erasure of the 1 cent design.

Position O, clearly showing the guide lines at top and left, h.r., Fine and extremely rare position estimated to represent only 0.1% of the total 62 million pane printing, this position is so rare because the horizontal guide line that ran across the middle of the 360-subject plate was much closer to the bottom of the stamps above it (Positions J-L) than the top of the tab for the positions below it (M-O), and as such when the panes were cut the guide line was almost always included in the upper positions, also Position O is in the middle of the sheet and competes for the vertical guide line to its left with Position N (which is also a very rare position), the only other example we have encountered was in the Beutel collection, this example is much better centered and more clearly shows the top guideline

1908, 2¢ carmine (Scott 332), light wavy line machine cancellation, an astounding example of this stamp, perfectly centered amid the most massive margins we have ever seen on this or any other Washington Franklin issue, with tantalizing deep rich color; a very common stamp being offered in a quality almost unimaginable, deserving placement in the finest collection; hold onto your hats as a record realization is certainly in store for the amazing World Class GEM stamp, Superb, 2012 P.S.E. certificate graded GEM-100J, 1 of only 3 examples to achieve this pinnacle of grades, and is of course the highest graded example of this stamp, according to PSE’s population report.
