1916, 2¢ carmine, type III, rotary coil (Scott 450), joint line pair, o.g., never hinged, extraordinary example of this extremely difficult high quality line pair with both stamps well centered, rare thus, as this tough rotary press coil was never given room for the joint line between the stamps during production, resulting in one stamp in a line pair almost always being far off centered, Post Office fresh showpiece that would please the most discriminating collector of quality Washington Franklin coil stamps, Very Fine. Scott $550. Estimate $400 – 600.

2c Carmine, Ty. III, Coil (450). Joint line pair, rich color, much better centering than normally seen, neat strikes of duplex cancel, Very Fine and choice, this coil issue is very underappreciated and undercatalogued, especially in used condition, even in Mint N.H. or hinged condition the highest grade is an 85 in P.S.E.’s Population Report, it is normally found with perfs touching at top and has been overshadowed by the Type I, Scott 449, but is actually more difficult to find with any kind of decent centering, with 2011 P.S.E. certificate
