1861, 3¢ pink (Scott 64), o.g., never hinged, extraordinary example of this rarely offered pink shade, in immaculate never hinged condition, rare thus, as this stamp is never found with full unblemished gum, the short perfs at left not withstanding, this is one of the nicest centered examples imaginable; multiple short perfs at left, otherwise Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Scott $14,000 for hinged. Estimate value $2,000 – 3,000.

This stamp was on a cover to Albany N.Y. when last offered to the market and the cover accompanies. With 1961, 2000 and 2009 P.F. certificates as on cover. With 2009 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90, SMQ price $8,500.00). Only one example has graded higher (at 95) and this is the only example to achieve this grade

1861, 3¢ pigeon blood pink (64a), virtually perfectly centered with bright color on fresh paper and full original gum, Extremely Fine and choice. SMQ price $85,000. Scott $50,000 THERE ARE FEW SURVIVING MINT EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE SHADE. THE PRESENT STAMP MAY WELL BE THE FINEST OF THAT SMALL NUMBER. Expertization: 2001 PF, 2000 & 2007 PSE Certificates, the last graded XF 90. This example is the only mint pigeon blood pink to have been graded by any expertizing body. Our review of the Philatelic Foundation’s online archives turned up three mint singles—one Fine, o.g. and two off-center and faulty.
