Bottom imprint and plate no. 30 block of 24, showing plate scratch in selvage at bottom left, original gum, few old-fashioned paper h.r. where separations reinforced incl. where separated at center row, few stamps Mint N.H., one stamp small thin spot, light bend at left VERY GOOD-FINE. A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM PLATE BLOCK MULTIPLE OF THE 2-CENT BLACK JACK ISSUE. VERY FEW MULTIPLES OF THIS SIZE ARE KNOWN, AND THIS IS THE MOST DESIRABLE WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED. In all of our computerized records, which includes sixteen years of auctions plus our Rarities sales, this is the second largest plate number multiple of the Black Jack we have offered. The next-largest is an imprint and plate number strip of four. Fourteen full plate blocks of eight are recorded in the Chapin census, but precious few have been seen. Ex Metzger.
