2c Proprietary, Blue, Imperforate (R13a). Large to huge margins, fresh color, oval 1865 handstamp cancel EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MAGNIFICENT EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT PROPRIETARY IMPERFORATE WITH HUGE MARGINS AND A HANDSTAMP CANCEL. The 2c Proprietary Imperforate is rarely encountered in sound condition with a handstamp cancel. The Zoellner collection had a copy with a small tear, and the Scarsdale collection had one with a lightened pen cancel. The stamp in the Kingsley collection (Sale 865, lot 1834) is virtually identical to this copy and might have formed a pair. It realized nearly two-times Scott value in our sale.
