United States Postmaster’s Provisionals New York, NY 1845 5c black on bluish, margins all around, tied by red “Paid” cancel on outer folded letter to Paris, forwarded under cover from Mexico, probably carried inside another letter by S.S. “Juan de la Granja,” to New York, with October 22, 1845 postmark in red, postage paid “per Steamer via Boston,” placed aboard the “Hibernia” departing November 1st, via Halifax to Liverpool and London, where red “Colonies and Art. 12” Anglo-French exchange mark was applied, arriving in France on November 21st, with “15” (decimes) charged to the recipient.
