Beautifully centered with balanced margins at sides and wide margins at top and bottom, sharp proof-like impression, bold strike of blue target cancel, in two prior sales we have noted “insignificant corner crease at bottom right is not even visible in fluid and can only be seen for a split second when the fluid dries”, we can find no trace of the crease now and the accompanying P.S.E. certificate does not note a crease EXTREMELY FINE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT BLACK JACK RE-ISSUE GRADED XF 90 BY P.S.E. THIS IS THE HIGEST GRADED AWARDED. ONLY 23 USED COPIES ARE RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS. The 2c Re-Issue was printed from a new plate of 100 subjects, compared to the original plate of 200 in two panes. 10,000 stamps were printed (100 impressions). Only 979 of the 2c were sold; the remaining 9,021 were destroyed on July 16, 1884. The 2c plate can be easily identified by a spot on the cheek (see illustration). Our census of Scott 103 used, available at our website at http://siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/103/103.pdf , records 23 examples. It is known with a variety of cancels. Approximately half are sound. The stamp offered here is one of the finest in existence. Ex Dr. Morris, Twigg-Smith and Tahoe. With 1986 P.F. certificate not noting any crease. The 2001 P.F. certificate noting crease no longer accompanies. With 2008 P.S.E. certificate as “genuine used, with a blue bullseye cancel” (XF 90; SMQ $52,500.00).
