Oct. 2, 1857” circular datestamps on blue folded letter to Paris, France, red “New York Paid 6 Oct. 10” credit datestamp, receiving backstamp, stamps affected by light horizontal cover bend, appears Fine, scarce usage, this October 1857 usage pre-dates the Red Brown printing (the shade is the 1856 No. 12 shade), with 1982 Diena certificate, Scott Retail for used strip of three off cover is $4,500.00

AN EXTREMELY RARE UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 5-CENT RED BROWN. According to Power Search, this is the sixth unused (no gum) example of the 1857 5c Red Brown we have offered (the last was sold in 2005). All have similar centering to this stamp, and three of the six have faults. With 2010 P.F. certificate
