5c Orange Brown (Scott 1b). Brilliant color in the early Orange Brown shade, large even margins, light strike of red grid cancel EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A BEAUTIFUL AND BRIGHT EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN VIVID ORANGE BROWN COLOR. In our opinion, the 1847 Orange Brown shade from the earliest printing is far more desirable than the later Orange Brown, and the earlier shade holds up much better over time. This is a superb example.
