1c Columbian (230). Top pane of 100 with two imprint, plate no. 47 and letter “J” blocks of eight, two imprint blocks at sides and half arrows at bottom corners, natural s.e. at bottom, hinge slivers at all four edges of selvage, applied to ungummed portion on top row and sides, other 90 stamps including both plate no. blocks Mint N.H., natural gum wrinkle thru pos. 89-90 FINE-EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE FRESH AND INTACT PANE OF 100 OF THE ONE-CENT COLUMBIAN ISSUE. All of the 1c stamps of the Columbian issue were printed from 200-subject plates, with guide arrows between the two panes of 100. The perforating machine applied horizontal perforations and cut the 200-stamp sheets into panes of 100 in the same operation, normally leaving a portion of the guide arrow on the straight edge of each pane. The 100-subject panes of the 1c stamp were then divided into half-panes of 50 for distribution and sale at post offices. The undivided full panes of 100, such as the one offered here, were only available from the Philatelic Agency in Washington D.C.
