1901, 8¢ Pan-American (Scott 298), corner margin single, o.g., barest trace of hinge (appears never hinged), the finest known example of this stamp, with precise centering and large balanced margins, with bold rich colors printed on lively white paper, although this stamp appears to be never hinged, the newly issued PSE certificate describes it as “previously hinged”, while the Philatelic Foundation certificate issued in 1999 specifically calls this stamp “never hinged”; whether or not this incredible stamp is hinged or never hinged is besides the point – it is without question the finest known example of this stamp deserving placement in the finest collection, Superb, 1999 P.F.C. and 2014 P.S.E. certificate graded GEM-100 – the HIGHEST GRADED example of this stamp according to PSE’s population report, the only example hinged or never hinged to achieve this pinnacle of grades. SMQ $400 in the grade of Sup-98. Scott $95 for hinged. Estimate price $1,000 – 1,500.
