2c Jamestown (Scott 329). Mint N.H., Jumbo margins of a size almost unheard of for this issue, choice centering, brilliant color on bright paper EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT JAMESTOWN, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E. — ONLY ONE HAS GRADED HIGHER AND NO OTHERS SHARE THIS GRADE. The Jamestown Issue is notorious for its tight spacing and narrow margins, which causes most copies to be off-center to some degree and nearly all to lack anything approaching Jumbo margins. Only one stamp among all three denominations has been graded 100, and this is one of only three in any condition throughout the set to achieve a 98J grade (others are Mint N.H. 1c and 5c). With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo, unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $2,500.00 as 98) Robert Siegel Auction Galleries, Nov 2012, Sale 1034, Lot 315 |
