1c Bright Blue, Reprint (Scott 40). Without gum as issued, brilliant color on bright paper, perfectly centered with unusually wide margins, long and full perforations all around EXTREMELY FINE GEM. WITHOUT QUESTION THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THE ONE-CENT 1857 ISSUE REPRINT IN EXISTENCE. A STAMP OF REMARKABLE BEAUTY AND FRESHNESS. The Continental Bank Note Company made a new plate for the 1c 1857 Reprint, consisting of 100 subjects. 10,000 stamps were printed (100 impressions). All are Type I stamps with the design complete. 3,846 of the 1c were sold, and the remaining 6,154 were destroyed on July 23, 1884, by order of the Postmaster General. Ex Odeneal.
