A RARE IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER BLOCK OF THE $1.00 1912 DOUBLE-LINE WATERMARKED FRANKLIN ISSUE. Scott 423 was printed from a single plate, which had plate numbers at top and bottom. This is one of the rarest of the Washington-Franklin Issue plate blocks. Lewis Kaufman records nine top and two bottom plate blocks. Undercatalogued in Scott, where the value has remained largely unchanged for the past 25 years. This catalogued $12,500.00 when it was last sold by our firm in the 1985 Rarities sale.
