1916, 3¢ violet, rotary coil (Scott 456), neat wavy black machine cancellation, what can only be considered the finest known example of this scarce stamp, perfectly centered with tantalizing bright color, a perfect GEM for the most quality conscious collector, Superb, 2012 P.S.E. certificate graded SUP-98 (1 of only 2 used examples to achieve this impressive grade, and currently is the HIGHEST GRADED 456 coil single, according to PSE’s population report). SMQ $2,000 in the grade of Sup-98. Scott $170. Estimate value $1,500 – 2,000.
