5c Blue (179). Mint N.H., deep rich color and proof-like impression, enormous margins on three sides VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE HIGH-GRADE MINT NEVER-HINGED 1875 5-CENT TAYLOR PRINTED BY CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE COMPANY. Although large multiples of the 5c Taylor American printing on soft paper (Scott 185) have provided Mint Never-Hinged singles, the 1875 Continental is very scarce in Mint Never-Hinged condition and rare in this grade. We have only offered offered four other Mint N.H. examples since keeping computerized records, the last of which realized $3,750 hammer in our Scarsdale sale (Sale 924). With 2007 P.F. certificate. 5c Blue (Scott 179). Original gum, lightly hinged, incredibly wide Jumbo margins and impeccably centered, strong color, clear impression EXTREMELY FINE. THE 1875 5-CENT TAYLOR IS RARELY SEEN IN THIS CHOICE ORIGINAL-GUM CONDITION. With 1988 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90 Jumbo, SMQ price $2,050.00 as 90, $3,600.00 as 95). This is the only 5c Continental printing to receive this grade, with none higher. The wider side margins do not fit with P.S.E. criteria for 95, but in our opinion this is essentially perfectly centered. Robert Siegel Auction Galleries, Sep 2008, Sale 962, Lot 2452 |
