24c Green & Violet (Scott 120). Original gum, sharp proof-like impressions on crisp paper, wide margins and choice centering EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLES OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE. The 24c 1869 Pictorial, even in original-gum condition, is not a rare stamp. However, centering and soundness are elusive qualities among examples of this issue. This is one of the most difficult stamps of the series to obtain in such choice condition. The graded population of 24c 1869 Pictorials bears this out. Among original-gum examples, the P.S.E. Population Report records only three above the grade of 40 (one each at 75, 90 and 95). With 2001 P.F. certificate. Robert Siegel Auction Galleries, May 2013, Sale 1044, Lot 106 |
