1869 (1875 Re-issue), 15¢ brown & blue, type III (Scott 129), neat black registry cancellation, extraordinary example of this terribly difficult used 1875 Pictorial re-issue which is much scarcer in used condition than in mint condition, this beautiful stamp is among the nicest of the 1,981 examples that were reportedly sold at the exhibition, a scarce opportunity, Very Fine, with 1998 P.F. certificate. 15c Brown & Blue, Re-Issue (Scott 129). Block of four, original gum, beautifully centered with intense colors and impressions, small faint ink spot between right vertical pair EXTREMELY FINE. ONLY TWO BLOCKS ARE RECORDED, AND THIS IS THE ONLY ONE WITH ORIGINAL GUM. A GREAT RARITY OF THE 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE. The other recorded block, ex Ackerman, Lilly, Hetherington and our 1998 Rarities sale, does not have any gum. Ex Worthington (described as having original gum; therefore, presumed to be this block), Bechtel, Zoellner and “Lafayette”.
