Some typical creasing and skillfully repaired margin tear, a stunning plate block. Estimate 10,000 – 15,000 ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED 1875 2¢ VERMILION IMPERFORATE PLATE BLOCKS. Expertization: 1968 P.F. Certificate (as block of 14). Provenance: Lilly, Faiman. Continental plate 161 was used for the several different special printings that included the 1875 Special Printing, the 1873 double paper variety, and the 1875 imperforate. The other recorded 2¢ vermilion imperforate plate block is from the bottom of the pane (Ex-Wampler, Chapin).
