1c Blue, Ty. II, Plate 3 (7). Position 10R3 with major double transfer, original gum, full to large margins including part of right sheet margin, intense Prussian Blue shade, sharp impression showing double transfer lines, a few dips in fluid were needed to decide that there is a tiny thin speck (which might only be in the gum) and faint wrinkle-crease, really inconsequential EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE TOP RIGHT CORNER POSITION OF THE RIGHT PANE OF PLATE 3, SHOWING A MAJOR DOUBLE TRANSFER. PROBABLY THE FINEST ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THIS POSITION EXTANT. The Neinken book (page 227) discusses the presence of five major double transfers in the tenth vertical row of Plate 3 Right, indicating that Toppan Carpenter experienced problems entering the first column on Plate 3. The double transfer is listed but unpriced in unused condition. Scott Retail for normal Plate 3 position with original gum.
