1c Blue, Ty. II (7). Plate 1E, three full margins, in at bottom, bright shade, tied by square grid cancel on printed circular dated July 1, 1851, the first day of issue VERY FINE. ONE OF SIX RECORDED JULY 1, 1851, DATED CIRCULARS WITH THE ONE-CENT 1851 ISSUE. THESE ARE LISTED IN THE FIRST DAY COVER SECTION OF THE SCOTT U.S. SPECIALIZED CATALOGUE. Printed circulars were frequently mailed after their publication date, so this is not a true First Day use of the new 1c 1851 Issue. However, the Scott U.S. Specialized lists July 1 circulars in the First Day Cover section and prices this at $4,000.00.

1c Blue, Ty. II (7). Position 10R1E with complete design at top, large even margins framing the distinctive 10R1E entry, used with 1c Blue, Ty. IIIa (8A), Position 56R1E, full margins all around, both bright shades, tied by “Auburn N.Y. Sep. 20” (circa 1851) circular datestamp on printed circular advertising to purchase land warrants, addressed to the clerk of Nicholas County in Carlisle Ky. EXTREMELY FINE. A REMARKABLE COVER, BEARING THE RARE 1851 ONE-CENT TYPE II IMPERFORATE FROM POSITION 10R ON PLATE ONE EARLY — THE ONLY TYPE II ON THIS PLATE WITH THE DESIGN COMPLETE AT TOP — WHICH WAS USED WITH A TYPE IIIa TO MAKE UP THE 2-CENT PRINTED MATTER RATE FOR 500 TO 1,500 MILES. Position 10R in the legendary top row of Plate 1 Early Right was more extensively ironed out at the bottom, but the entry still retained its characteristic Type I Relief T complete design at top. This position is very rare in any form (Scott value $2,000.00 off cover), and it is seldom encountered on cover. In this case, it is obvious that the sender affixed the Type IIIa first, then added the 10R1E to make up the required 2c rate for circulars sent between 500 and 1,500 miles. Ex Neinken
