I (11), all stamps tied by multiple strikes of blue segmented grid, matching “Marysville Cal. Paid by Stamps Dec. 4” circular datestamp on cover to St. Louis Mo., “Jan. 4” handstamp struck at lower right partly over the address, cover wear and missing top flap, outer 3c stamps with creases, still a Very Fine appearing and scarce cover, illustrated in Ashbrook Vol. II on p. 361 (handstamp on back) where he speculates that “Jan. 4” may represent the date this cover became an advertised letter, the distinctive Marysville grid was designed to cancel two stamps at once

F. G. Dallas, U.S.N., U.S. Steamer John Hancock, Puget Sound W.T.”, bottom stamp in strip creased before use, otherwise Extremely Fine, a rare use of the 1c 1851 Issue and a fascinating cover, the U.S.S. John Hancock sailed from San Francisco on Mar. 20, 1856, for Puget Sound to help suppress Indian uprisings which threatened to wipe out white settlements and Army outposts established in the early 1850’s, she arrived in Seattle on Mar. 28 and operated from that port as a base until Aug. 4 — this was mailed to Lieut. Dallas on board the ship — ex Haas

Apr. 25” circular datestamp on small drop-rate cover, turned and used a second time to Cambridge Mass., second use franked with 1857 3c Ty. I (25), tied by “Troy N.Y. Paid Nov. 10, 1857” circular datestamp with second strike to left which can be seen through the cover on the local usage side, bottom flap with tear from opening, Very Fine and most interesting, turned covers are not particularly rare, but it is unusual to see one with two different denomination stamps paying different rates, this cover is also enhanced by the time difference between the two uses, allowing for the use of both an 1851 1c Imperforate and an 1857 3c Perforated
