1c Blue, Ty. IV (9). Position 96L1L, recut once at top, original gum — so pristine, it would be considered never hinged if it were seen on a much later issue — enormous margins all around including sheet margin at bottom and trace of adjacent stamps at top and left EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MAGNIFICENT ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE IMPERFORATE TYPE IV ONE-CENT 1851 ISSUE. A SUPERB STAMP IN EVERY RESPECT. To describe this extraordinary stamp merely as a Scott 9 with original gum does not do justice to its condition. There is no doubt that it comes from an original-gum multiple cut apart in recent years, because any single 1c 1851 stamp of this quality would have been mounted with hinges in collections going back to the early 20th century. It is also quite possible that the stamp comes from a position in the block that was never hinged, for there is only a small area of unevenness in the gummed selvage, and we see no trace of hinging. For the collector who demands original gum on classic stamps, this is the ultimate example of the 1c Type IV imperforate. With 1992 P.F. certificate

1c Blue, Ty. IV (Scott 9). Position 5L1L, original gum, barely hinged, huge margins incl. trace of three adjoining stamps and sheet margin at top, intense shade and impression on bright paper EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1851 ONE-CENT IMPERFORATE TYPE IV WITH TREMENDOUS VISUAL APPEAL. In our opinion, this extraordinary stamp is certainly deserving of a higher grade, either 95 Jumbo or 98 Jumbo. The stamp has a sheet margin at top, and the margins on other sides show parts of all three adjoining stamps. They are also quite even and balanced. With 1993 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, XF-Superb 95)

1c Blue, Ty. IV (9). Positions 76-77L1L, Mint N.H. horizontal pair, huge margins to full at sides incl. significant portion of adjoining stamps at top (Positions 66-67L1L), unusually rich color and exceptional proof-like impression for a Plate 1 Late printing, left stamp recut once at top and once at bottom, right stamp recut twice at top and once at bottom EXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN OUTSTANDING MINT NEVER-HINGED PAIR OF THE 1851 ONE-CENT TYPE IV IMPERFORATE. MINT NEVER-HINGED STAMPS OF THE CLASSIC ERA ARE EXCEEDINGLY RARE. Very few imperforate 1c 1851 multiples exist from which Mint N.H. singles could or can be removed. A review using Power Search found eight Mint N.H. examples in addition to the pair offered here. With 2008 P.S.E. certificate. Scott Retail as hinged singles does not even come close to indicating the rarity of this remarkable pair.
