Rich colors on crisp paper, black cork cancel and French double-circle datestamp at bottom, also red transit marking at bottom, small bit of manuscript in left margin, completely sound FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 15-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL INVERT. ALSO VERY DESIRABLE WITH THE IDENTIFIABLE FRENCH TRANSIT MARKING. Our census of 15c 1869 Inverts, recently updated at our website at http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/119b/119b.pdf , contains three unused and 96 used (one in the British Library’s Tapling collection and one in the New York Public Library’s Miller Collection). Only nine are confirmed as sound, including this example, and virtually all have perfs either close or touching on one or more sides.
