AN EXTREMELY RARE USED BLOCK OF THE 1894 $2.00 UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE. According to Linn’s U.S. Stamp Facts, a block of four is the largest recorded used multiple of the $2.00 1894 Unwatermarked Bureau Issue. We have only sold two others.

AN EXTREMELY RARE IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER STRIP OF THE 1894 $2.00 UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE. ONLY ONE FULL PLATE BLOCK OF SIX IS KNOWN. The dollar values of the unwatermarked Bureau issues had the top selvage cut to accommodate the available perforating machine. Therefore, no top plate numbers exist for the dollar values in any form. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a top position plate block of the $2.00. For the unwatermarked issue (Scott 262) the top plates were all trimmed away prior to perforating and only one plate block is recorded for the bottom position. For the watermarked issue, only five plate blocks are recorded (four from the top).

Plate 84 is the only one used for this issue, and plate number examples are only known from the bottom of the sheet, since the tops were trimmed prior to perforating.
