US Stamps Value Scott Catalog #O16: 2c 1873 Interior Official. Robert Siegel Auction Galleries, Mar 2015, Sale 1095, Lot 550

2c Interior, Specimen Ovpt. (O16S). Complete sheet of 100, without gum as issued, “Specimen” corrected spelling on Position 21, imprint and plate no. 45 selvage at top and bottom, s.e. at right, remarkably pristine condition except for a few perf separations and few light bends on some stamps at right VERY FINE. A PHENOMENAL INTACT SHEET OF 100 OF THE 2-CENT INTERIOR SPECIAL PRINTING, SHOWING THE CORRECTED SPELLING OF THE “SEPCIMEN” ERROR. AN IMPORTANT SHOWPIECE AND ALSO THE LARGEST RECORDED MULTIPLE. When production of the Officials Special Printings started, Position 21 of the “Specimen” overprint setting was misspelled “Sepcimen.” This was subsequently noticed and corrected. 53 different “Sepcimen” errors are listed in Scott, and 39 denominations from various departments are not known with the variety. The variety was first corrected during the printing of the 2c Interior. The existence of this pane is proof of this, because there was only one printing of 10,000 stamps (100 sheets), and two examples of Position 21 with the “Sepcimen” error are known. Scott Retail as two plate blocks of twelve and nineteen blocks of four.
